The Barbershop Harmony Society is currently offering internships for the spring/summer of 2009 for the following position: Graphic Artist or Writer/Editor for full or part-time work on a pro bono basis. All intern positions are non-paid, and freelance, but all contributors will receive a one-page presentation of themselves on our website.
This is an opportunity to work for an international music magazine headquartered in downtown Nashville. The Harmonizer, the flagship publication of the Barbershop Harmony Society, is a full-color, high attitude magazine filled with profiles, fun, accomplishments, humor, photos, editorializing and more. More than 30,000 singers and singing fans read this energetic, bi-monthly publication.
Qualifications:
Desired intern must have excellent writing skills, high creativity, high attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills and initiative. He/she will work directly under the supervision of the magazine’s editor and will be given a variety of assignments, writing and otherwise. Photographic and design skills are also highly desired. He/she will participate in strategic planning and have regular contact with Society staff and members throughout North America. Candidates will receive the opportunity to pen a number of by-lined and non-by-lined pieces for their portfolios.

. Please provide three samples of between 250 and 1,000 words, each showing a different aspect of one’s writing ability. If possible, provide at least one sample that is more colorful or conversational in tone. High preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the ability to convey substance with style, in a succinct manner.
