Directors College continues to make improvements to satisfy what you the director have been asking for. Through collected years of feedback from students, faculty, and from seasoned directors, the Chorus Director Development committee and seasoned DC faculty members have created a new look for DC.
Highlights
• “Rehearsal Techniques” NEW CLASS - Mark Hale, three time gold medal chorus director, will delve into things from basic sound production to more advanced topics such as using motivational techniques, improving your chorus culture, planning an effective rehearsal and using your section leaders better. Learn how you can take methods used by championship choruses and make them work in your own chapter.
• “Care and Feeding of the Assistant Director” NEW CLASS - This course, aimed at front-line directors, discusses the benefits of having strong assistant directors, and how to find talent within your ranks, starting with a skills matrix. We’ll also discuss the assistant director’s role in the musical leadership team, and share models of success from around the Society.
• “Directing Techniques" - Like last year, we will offer three levels of Directing Techniques. Other elements, such as rehearsal skills will be taught elsewhere.
• “Choral Methods” - The sound tract is now; Sound Management, Making a Sound Difference, followed by Choral Methods. Choral Methods is a perfect complement to the current Sound Tract which gives the students much more practical tools to help their singers achieve peak performance.
• “Directors College Chorus” - As a student, you may choose to take the Directors College Chorus in which you participate as a chorus singer. You will learn music ahead of time, work on this music throughout the week with a renowned director (this year, Joe Cerutti), and get coached from some of the top coaches in the Society. Space will be limited, so sign up early.
