Directors College is the greatest week of education you could possibly receive as a barbershopper. From the wannabe directors to the extremely advanced directors, and everything in between, there is something for you to learn at HU / DC.

You do not need to audition to be eligible to attend Directors College. All you need is a desire to learn!

The majority of our DC faculty has higher education degrees in the areas in which they are teaching! Knowledge is certainly POWER at Directors College!

Directors College has a specific curriculum that has been refined over the years to give you the best bang for the buck! In Directors College, you can expect:

• Sequential Directing Techniques tract (based on skill set)
• Sequential Music Theory tract (based on knowledge)
• Sequential Sound Management classes (based on years of attendance)
• Courses to assist the director on Leadership, How to Teach What You Know, Choral Methods, Rehearsal Techniques, Arranging, and many more...
• Courses to assist the director to assist members of the chorus on Sight Singing, How to Be a Great Section Leader, Warm Ups, Implementing a Voice Training Regimen, and many more...
• Informal conversations with your faculty on how they do what they do!
• Insights on how to be more successful on your craft of directing a barbershop chorus
• PLUS…all the social / fraternal benefits of Harmony University!

First Year DC Students:

• The majority of the curriculum is chosen for the first year student. You may choose to enroll in all remedial level classes, or test out of the basic theory and directing techniques class.
• Electives may be chosen in Session 3A (if you test out of Music Theory) and Session 3B (most take Directors College Chorus…but it is not required)

Second Year DC Students:

• Like first year students, the majority of the curriculum is chosen for you.
• Electives may be chosen in Session 3A (assuming you have tested out of Music Theory) and Session 3B

Third Year DC Students:

• Classes will be chosen for you in Session 1 and 2, and if you haven’t passed out of Music Theory, Session 3A.
• All other sessions are open to electives.
  • You may take anything you want as an elective for the pure enjoyment of HU

Fourth Year DC Students:

By now, you will have taken all required classes. We request you continue taking a Directing Techniques class. Otherwise, feel free to enroll as a student in Harmony College!
