Second set of mics discontinued in quartet contests

Contest staging will return to longstanding single position.

A few years ago, the Barbershop Harmony Society Society Contest and Judging Committee decided to add 2 additional mics for quartet contests. These were set a few feet to the outside of the quartet on each side. The thinking was that the additional coverage would allow for more varied approaches in performance by creating a larger usable area on the stage. Now that we’ve observed this in practice, we’ve seen that, with few exceptions, these outside mics have just not been utilized. Including them as part of the configuration adds to the time and cost of setting up every contest stage, so we have made the decision that moving forward these outside mics will no longer be provided.
