When we attend an international convention, it's easy for us to be immersed in our safe little bubble of barbershop friendship, and be free from the cares of daily life. That made the freak accident that killed George Viveiros even more unsettling than the loss of any of our brothers.
A two-car collision a few blocks from the Air Canada Centre spread from the intersection to pedestrians on the sidewalk, injuring ten, among them Viveiros, partner of candidate judge Jim Haggerty, a member of The Masters of Harmony.
After a few days in critical condition, George was removed from life support and passed away in the company of his friends and partner Jim, whom he was due to wed the following week. “He died doing exactly what he loved to do: travel, be with his friends, and take care of me,” Jim said. “He never thought about himself . . . he taught me to stop thinking about myself, and think about others as well.”
A moving tribute to George was published in the Toronto Star, and can be found online at bit.ly/georgetribute
